I’m the Kitchen Gidget. When I was about 13 the doctor said that was it for me. You’re done growing. Any additional growth would be absorbed by my scoliosis. Now, at 5’1” I am by no means a midget (granted that’s measuring generously), but my small-boned structure furthers the impression of my already petite stature. As a college student I worked at Best Buy for over 2 years and Gidget was my nickname there.
I grew up in a family with good cooks and I ate ravenously. Relatives joked both legs must be hollow because there was nowhere else to store all I ate. One day, when I was about 7 years old, my father brought home Teddy Bears’ Picnic Cookbook. I made the Vegetable and Cheese Pitas (modified by adding poached chicken) and that’s the first time I can remember cooking on my own.
The rest is history, as they say. I’m just a home cook with a passion for food. I’ve had no training and am mostly self-taught (thank you homeschooling). I still have much more to learn, which I hope to achieve with this blog. Thanks for reading and I hope you experience some of the joy that comes from creating and sharing!
