Smoothie with Cottage Cheese
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: we love smoothies around here, like this Blueberry Cottage Cheese Smoothie.
It’s one of our not-so-secret healthy tricks to substitute one meal a day with a nourishing smoothie.
Especially when I’m cooking up desserts like Blueberry Delight and Lemon Blueberry Trifle all the time!
Smoothies are quick, delicious and nutritious! They help balance the holiday over-indulgence and help maintain those New Year’s resolutions.
To keep from getting bored, I’m always thinking of new combinations.
My go-to flavor is usually strawberry and banana.
To increase the nutrients, I typically add a few handfuls of spinach without changing the taste.
I like experimenting with other vegetables in my smoothies as well, like Orange Carrot Smoothie.
This time I decided to experiment with the protein component.
I never use powdered protein in my smoothies, but I do like to add Greek yogurt.
It’s a good source of calcium and the protein keeps me fueled and feeling full.
I remember my parents eating cottage cheese and peaches for breakfast when I was younger.
I thought it was a weird combination, but it recently struck me that it would be a great addition to a smoothie!
I wanted to stay away from peaches, so I threw it in my blueberry smoothie along with a banana.
A dash of warm spice brings it all together. Take your pick of cinnamon, nutmeg or cardamom—they all taste fantastic with blueberries!
I like to blend the banana and cottage cheese until it’s smooth before adding my blueberries.
This way there are no curds when I’m slurping, although some may like that textural component.
The result is a thick and creamy blueberry cottage cheese smoothie without the sour tang of yogurt.
It’s richer without adding sugar or fat! Hello, healthy blueberry cheesecake smoothie!
You can be sure I’ll be sipping on this after my morning workout.

Wow!! Loved this smoothie! I’ve been wanting to up my protein so tried cottage cheese on crackers but it took me back to my 1980 diet days… so in an effort to do something with the left over cottage cheese, came across your recipe. It tasted gorgeous, so fresh and zingy, think the cinnamon worked brilliantly - my wife gave it a go too and we’re definitely going to incorporate this into our day. Thanks so much for posting - a whopping 20g of protein… and delicious.

The best thing about smoothies is their capacity for infinite experimentation. And like many subjective tastes, only you can determine the best combination of smoothie ingredients for you.
