Crock Pot Italian Chicken is an incredibly easy recipe with Italian dressing mix, cream of chicken soup and cream cheese cooked until fall-apart tender. The creamy sauce is delicious over pasta or rice!
Who doesn’t love an easy Crock Pot recipe?
Dump-and-go Mississippi Pot Roast is one of the most popular recipes on the blog featuring beef.
But when we have chicken breast to use up, it’s either this creamy crock pot chicken or one-pan Cream of Mushroom Chicken for dinner.
Add 4 ingredients to the slow cooker and you’re on your way to winner, winner, creamy Italian chicken dinner!
Ingredients & Substitutes
Chicken breasts – boneless and skinless. The weight is not too important. I usually just get 4 breasts. You can also substitute thin-cut breasts, tenders or boneless, skinless thighs.
Italian dressing mix – this is usually found by the salad dressings. My normal brand is Good Seasons. I’ve used both original and zesty and like them both.
Cream of chicken soup – the creamy base of this recipe. You could also substitute cream of mushroom or celery if you’re in a pinch.
Cream cheese – the ingredient that makes this extra good, rich and cheesy.
Milk – this is to thin out the sauce at the end of cooking. You can also use chicken broth, water or skip it altogether if you like a very thick gravy.
Seasonings – I like to add extra spices to my chicken such as garlic powder and black pepper. The Italian seasoning is plenty of flavor, but you can never have too much garlic.
How to make Crock Pot Italian Chicken
Add chicken to crock pot and sprinkle with seasonings.
Top with the condensed soup and cream cheese, in that order.
Let the slow cooker do its thing.
Remove the chicken. Add the milk to the crock pot and mix with the soup and cream cheese until combined.
I like to shred the chicken and add it back to the sauce, but you can also serve the breasts whole with the sauce spooned over top.
What to serve with crock pot chicken
This chicken can be served with a variety of sides such as pasta, egg noodles, mashed potatoes or rice.
Rice is my favorite, but anything to soak up the sauce is delicious.
I always serve with a green vegetable like broccoli or green beans.
Can you add the vegetables to the chicken?
The short answer is yes, but the cooking time will depend on multiple factors.
What kind of vegetables? Skinny string beans or dense carrots?
Are the veggies fresh, frozen or canned?
Are you cooking the chicken on HIGH or LOW?
For me, it’s easier to cook my veggies on their own while I’m preparing the pasta or rice than to remember to add the veggies to the crock pot before the chicken is done.
